Kai and his best friend Barron share a day of bravery, heritage, and friendship as they race through the village on a clock to complete their mission by sundown. After Kai loses his two front teeth, he and Barron boldly enlist the help of the entire village to learn the magical code to connect to the tooth fairy rat.

This is an adaptation of the Haitian fable, which instructs a child to throw one’s lost tooth onto the roof of a house, so that the Magical Tooth fairy rat can find it and replace it. Follow along on this joyful adventure where these two brilliant boys test their faith in the “good God,” tati Josette, and the whole village.

About the Author:

Regine is a Haitian-American mother, lawyer, strategist, and author. She’s also the co-founder of Isse & Lo, the imprint behind this magical box set. These fables are a labor of love in her heartfelt contribution to keeping Haitian and Caribbean oral stories alive.

About the Illustrator:

Pierre-Richard Raphael, also known as Pyelila (neem tree in English), is a young Haitian visual artist, specializing in Illustration, Photography, and Graphic Design.

Haitian folklore and fantasy pour their magic into his signature style and cultural inspiration. This has always shaped his unique art into a tool to convey and celebrate every beautiful story that Haiti has to offer. After his Art studies at Ecole Nationale des Arts (ENARTS) in Por tau- Prince, he embarked on a freelance career in visual art.

In turn, his training and cultural pride deliver a form of freedom that he uses to delve into the world of illustration, the representation of many aspects of the Haitian heritage that need a voice, and art from the heart.
